DIY Jail Stripe Jeans

I am totally in love with the jail stripes I have been seeing lately! The jeans by Motel Rocks, tops at H&M, and numerous leggings all sported the look, but I decided to make my own pair. It's super easy to do and turned out so well. :)

Materials:
-White Paint (acrylic or fabric paint)
-Black Jeans
-Masking Tape
-Big Paint Brush
-Cardboard
-Scissors

1. Lay out your jeans on a flat surface and make sure the seam on the outer edge of the jeans is lying straight along the edge. Place your first stripe of masking tape along this edge.

2. Continue laying down strips of masking tape parallel to the first strip. Make sure to leave space in between for the white stripes!
3.Finish one leg of your jeans (front left, front right, back left, back right).
4. Place a piece of cardboard in the middle of the two pieces of jean fabric. Move this along as you paint to prevent paint from leaking through to the other side.

5. Paint that leg of your jeans and let dry.
6. Peel of tape once dry and start on another leg. Continue as you had done before.
7. Go back and fix any spots if you messed up with either a little black or white paint!
8. Let dry and then your done! :)

Twiggy!

I think my favorite decade would have to be the 60s! I just love the mod style. This week, I drew a picture of Twiggy for an art project:

And the dress I found at Goodwill a couple weeks ago is also so very Twiggy! I paired it with my new talon bracelet I got on ebay! I am in love with this bracelet, and it is actually a bangle that fits me...which is surprising because I normally can't wear bangles because of my small wrists. Anyway, still waiting for my college admission letters...I heard some people are getting them from Parsons so I'm praying to get one soon! As for the rest, I have to wait until April 1st. As always, feel free to leave a message or pop by my tumblr or lookbook or chictopia! Your messages always make my day :)

Portflio

So, I have been working on a bunch of new pieces lately for my portfolio, but I just wanted to post my current portfolio for now. These are the pieces that I sent to Parsons, Pratt, and FIT for admission to study Fashion Design. I'll get the decisions back from these schools on April 1st...it's torture having to wait so long. I'm just praying that I get in and get huge scholarships and financial aid...especially for Parsons and Pratt since they are so expensive. Anyway, this is my portfolio:

And these are the dresses I made that I posted on lookbook (there are also more pictures of these in my portfolio on flickr):

Let me know what you all think! Feel free to stop by my tumblr too at  sewinginstilettos.tumblr.com and check back for updates on my portfolio later. :)

Thrifting Haul #1

So, I've been on a couple thrifting hauls at Goodwill lately, and I just have to show you all my finds. I'm going to try and split them up though, so that I don't have too many pictures in one post. This first haul will be from all of the vintage dresses I got. I'm sort of obsessed. Anyway, I'm going to have to edit most of these dresses, but they're all simple, quick, easy fixes-mostly shortening hems.

Dress #1:

DIY Night Sky Print

Okay, sorry it has been so long since my last post! I'm definitely going to be posting more often with more on my life and fashion though! As for this post, many people have been asking me to do a tutorial on my night sky dress. I first of all want to say that most of my DIY garments are not meant to be DIY as in DIY tutorials, but more DIY in the sense that I made them myself as a fashion designer. That being said, I do not mind doing tutorials for simple projects based on my designs or other designs, but these will be specified as DIY tutorials. So, please do not ask me to do a tutorial on any garment that I have not labeled as such. I hope you will still enjoy seeing my designs and being able to purchase some in my online shop, which is coming soon!

Anyway, the night sky print that I did on the dress is actually super easy!

Materials:

-a white garment
-red, blue, and purple acrylic paint (you can also use fabric paint, but I used acrylic)
-a cup of water
- a big paint brush

1. Start out by laying out your garment with newspaper in between the two layers of fabric so that the paint will not bleed through.
2. Start with one color and paint in circular motions random spots on the fabric the same way I have started here on this piece of paper:

3.  Add the other colors, mixing the same way in circular motions and blending the colors together. Add water as needed to get different shades.

4. Continue until the entire front or back of garment is covered.
5. Let dry.
6. Flip over and repeat steps.
7. If you want to add a cityscape like in my design, simple wait until entire garment is dry and then paint it on the bottom in black paint.

And that's it! Super easy! Hope you all like this and that it helps! Let me know if you have any questions. Also, if you try any of my DIYs, link to me in your description of wherever you post your photos and message me so that I can feature you on  this blog!
